1.3.13

okay, i'll admit it. i've been terrible with this new blog (well, actually not so new anymore). i just haven't been posting. baaad.

despite currently taking an evening photography course, i seem to be taking less photos? i'm trying to work out why. i think in vienna everything was new but here everything seems the same to me. after all, i was born in brighton and have lived here for the majority of my life. i guess i'm struggling to see it through new eyes without taking the same old photographs that have been taken a million times before.

anyway, what have i been doing?

we've booked the venues for the wedding (June 2014) and the photographer! (very exciting).

i've joined bfit and have been getting my arse kicked into shape on hove lawns for the past month. i am by far the most unfit person in the group but i'm slowly getting better (despite feeling physically sick after mondays session).

we became obsessed with watching breaking bad and are now eagerly awaiting the final 8 episodes (it is seriously the best thing i've seen on tv in ages).

current obsession is watching homeland. SO good.

not much exciting cooking going on around here lately as we've been trying to eat super healthily, meaning tons of vegetables, salad, fruit and all things good for you. booooring.

still searching for a part-time job. again. booooring. my old team are currently in milan for a trade show. missing being a part of that.

so due to lack of employment i have officially taken on the role of housewife. i haven't quite made it to domestic goddess status yet (and quite unlikely to!).

talking of which, better get to the supermarket.....

be back soon.

fresh start

well, embarrassingly this blog hasn't got off to a very good start in 2013. i can't seem to focus on anything and i'm no longer sure where i'm trying to go with this space. i'm still hunting for a job but i've been keeping busy with moving home. i love our new place. it has an amazing sea view. i find the sea so calming even when it is rough and stormy (on a day like today).

these are just a few instagram snaps from the past few months. we visited london in december to celebrate our anniversary and went to the natural history museum to see the dinosaurs.

i also realised that i haven't mentioned some big news that happened back in december. kev and i got engaged! after 10 years together we finally decided to do this thing. yikes. i still can't quite believe it! i've already been getting caught up in wedding planning and discovering that there is so much stuff out there it can TOTALLY BLOW YOUR MIND. i'm trying to take one step at a time and not get too carried away but one night i found myself lying awake at 4am with ideas and questions and panic swirling around in my head. ahhh. i can see i'm gonna turn into a complete bridezilla!

the last day of the year

so i didn't realise at the time how apt the photograph was in my last post... life certainly has passed by quickly lately (the whole month of december passed by without a single post). sadly i haven't even been taking many photographs.

these last few months have been a little strange back in brighton. i've needed time to adjust and i think i'm finally getting there. i guess i've not been feeling very inspired. but i am excited to start a new year and see what 2013 holds in store for me. starting with a new home in january. yay!

and i hope to get this little space started again. so goodbye 2012. bring on 2013!

30.11.12

ticking...

so, i'm still trying to adjust back to life in brighton.

the last few months have kind of disappeared in a blur. we temporarily moved into a small flat above my grandparents place but find ourselves still here. it is comfortable enough but with all our possessions still in storage (except for what we were able to bring in 3 suitcases) it is starting to drive me a little nuts. i need my stuff!

i've been watching a lot of bad daytime tv. it sucks you in.

still no job. i can't even bring myself to apply for anything that is on offer. i miss my old job but i'm trying to stay optimistic that something will turn up eventually. maybe 2013 is the year for new beginnings.

20.11.12

during october i spent a lot of time volunteering for the brighton photo biennial (BPB12 curated by photoworks) which was a fantastic experience. there were many venues around the city but i was mostly based inside a converted blue shipping container on the beach (called ROOM). we endured all weathers down there! it kept me busy though. now i'm back to job searching.

16.11.12

brighton zombie walk

it seems like a long time ago now but this year in october i took part in the beach of the dead zombie walk in brighton. basically lots and lots of people dress up as zombies and all walk together along an organised route through the city and along the beach. so much fun! the after party had an 80's theme hence why i look so 80's! my outfit was totally thrown together last minute but i hope to put a bit more thought and effort into next years.

i didn't take my camera with me so just managed to take a few snaps with my phone whilst trying to stay in zombie character. some people looked amazing and actually quite scary!

5.11.12

lately

so life seems to have been pretty busy lately and i've been using my iphone to take photos much more than my camera. something i need to rectify!

so much has been happening since i last posted. i've been to berlin on holiday (which was fantastic!), i've been volunteering lots (which i'll tell you about another time), i've been dressed as a zombie (twice) and i've been attending 2 part-time courses (one in digital photography and the other in jewellery making). all good fun but i'm missing vienna and still feeling a little unsettled to be honest.

by the way, the we heart falafel is a newish place on sydney street, brighton and is well worth a visit for a simple and tasty (and very reasonable) homemade falafel wrap!

15.10.12

pub lunch

when looking for good traditional pub grub in brighton you can't really go wrong with the basketmakers. i love this pub with its old style cosy interior, selection of ales, great food and friendly atmosphere. the only problem is that everybody else thinks so too meaning getting a table sometimes can be quite a problem!

i ate the roast beef sandwich with watercress and horseradish (delicious and SO much beef) and my friend had the jacket potato with melted cheese and garlic mushrooms (one of my favourites... although look at the butter in the dish! yikes. naughty but nice).

1.10.12

lately

so this past week i bought a new cook book (can't wait to get cooking!), we saw blue skies, i enjoyed an afternoon strongbow (or two) with a great friend (whilst we hatched plans of how to make some money), and i ate yummy pulled pork soft corn tacos at la choza (a newish mexican street food place with cute decor).

i've also finally joined the iphone brigade so i've become slightly obsessed with instagram. my name is rockinkez if you would like to follow me!

24.9.12

brighton food and drink festival

we missed most of the brighton & hove food and drink festival but we did manage to make it to the market at hove lawns on the last weekend for a very tasty lamb burger from one of the stalls! yummo.

21.9.12

guitars at the beach

some typical scenes from brighton beach in the september sunshine (although it was very windy!) and a cheeky crow on the pebbles.

i was at the beach last week taking some photographs of the jewellery a friend of mine has been making for her new little etsy shop called one more no more. she gave me a white guitar necklace as a birthday gift. i love it!

14.9.12

a new chapter

so the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new. i can't believe we left vienna two weeks ago already. i'm still feeling a little lost and am trying to settle into life back in brighton but i'm excited to start rediscovering my hometown through this new blog.

this began last week with a walk over the hills behind where my grandparents live to falmer village (which I haven't done since i was a child). luckily for us the sun was shining that day (i hear it has been a pretty rare occurrence around here this summer) and i was reminded how lovely the view is down to the sea in the distance. we also enjoyed a local sussex ale in the pub before making the walk back home.
